I've been pretty lazy about my blog and I know a lot of people are waiting to see my Korea/Auckland trip report. But before I get back to that, I have some good news to share with all of you first.
First: Cebu is obv a stunning place, at least the resort itself. I haven't been able to check out the beach and water activities but will def find a time to do so.
Second: I'm the chip leader with 158.5k in chips at the end of day1A!!!! booya! one time?
So right before the tournament started, I told myself that I'm going to be playing hyper aggro style, either I go very deep or go home early cuz I'm tired of surviving till day2 and bust out of the money.
table 1:
My first table was actually really good, full of old nits and live donks. So it wasn't very hard for me to lag it up a bit, but not until Steve Yea (FTP red pro, super aggro but spewy) arrived at my table. You can imagine that some fireworks are about to go off.
First confrontation:
2 ppl limp at 50/100, I made it 600 pre w/ JdJc, Steve called in the sb, two limper both called.
Flop ($2500) 5d 6d 9c
Steve checked, limper 1 donk bet 800, limper 2 folded and I made a strong raise to 2800. Steve tanked for a long time and c/r to 6kish...limper folded and back to me. I know Steve is aggro but he probably is not making a move when there's a bet and a raise. So I let the hand go.
few orbits later, after I got my stack up to roughtly 28k, a major firework occured between me and Yea.
Confrontation 2:
folded to me in co w/ A5ss and I made it 525 (100/200) to go, a mid age tag fish flats otb and Steve made a squeeze from sb to 1750. I decided to flat to manipulate him with my position. btn folded.
Flop: 2d 2 3d ($4200ish)
Steve cbet 2k and I tanked a bit and flatted.
Turn: 4d (8200ish)
Steve checked and I made a pretty large bet of 7kish, leaving Steve only 8k if he just calls.
He tanked and tanked and tanked and decided to shove all in and I snapped him. I turned my hand up and he threw his hand into the muck w/o even trying to see what the river card was.
River brought an useless 5d and Steve Yea hit the rail. (lol steve yea, stop pulling moves on someone who can own your soul)
After that hand, I was in complete control of my table, raising literally 30-40% of the hands and either everyone folded pre or just took it down after flop. There were few times where ppl just couldn't take it anymore and tried to play pots w/ me but failed due to the positional advantage and chip advantage I had.
at about level 5, I got moved to a new table.
New table:
I have to admit that I made a pretty unforgivable mistake by trying to run the new table over w/o even observing how the new table is playing. Here's the hand I blew off 20k in chips 3rd hand in.
Folds to me in co w/ 36o and I made it 1200 to go at 200/400/50. sb (looks like a local philippino) flats.
Flop KKs8s (3200)
sb donks out 1200 and I thought for a bit and decided to bluff raise him. I made it 3500 and he quickly flats. At this point, I put him on weak pair and fd.
Turn 5d
he quickly c/c my 6500 bet and had 10k left
river was a 4h
he instant check/called my river shove and showed me K9cc. yuck.
I was pretty upset at myself after the hand and was wondering why I couldn't hit the break sometimes.
Stack after the hand: 60k. (started at the table with about 80k)
few rounds later, at 300/600, a guy w/ pokerstar gear, who's been playing sorta tight open 5x utg, folds to me otb and looked down my first AKo of the day. I looked at his stack and found him only have 14k left. So I decided to just reshove on him. He didn't even tank before snap calling and turned over QQ. sweet, a race situation where I never win.
Flop AA8!!! oh wow, one time?! not so much the case when the Q dropped the turn and I failed to boat up on the river. Like, seriously, when can I ever win a flip in a major tournament?
Stack after that hand: about 40k left.
Then this major hand that determined my table leader status occurred.
Folds to the button who's been pretty tight and he opened 5x. Sb flats and I looked down AQhh. I was like...this guy's never folding to my 3bet and I'd be pretty damn crushed if he shoves over my 3bet. So I decided to just flat and play for my stack if i hit my A or Q.
Flop: As 2d 3h (pot: 1ok)
sb checks and I checked and btn potted it, leaving himself 20k. sb folds and I was like...well, if he has AK, so be it but i'm not folding my top pair Q kicker when the guy has put in 1/3 of his stack in. So I check/raised him all in and he called and showed me the last hand I wanted to see- AK.
I was thinking to myself, well, at least I could go home early and check out the beach tmr. However, my beach plan was crushed when the Q dropped on the turn and my hand held up!!!
Back to 70k in chips and after that hand, needless to say, I was in a complete charge again. Few people tried to play pots with me but all failed. Then I got involved with 2 pots back to back against the guy who donk bet his trips earlier in the post.
First hand: I opened AK on the button and he flats his bb again.
Flop KJ3 two hearts. he donks out and I decided to take the same line I took when I bluffed him earlier. I made a 3x raise and he flats. Turn was an offsuit 6 and he c/f to my all in bet.
Very next hand. Folds to me in co w/ AK again and I opened. He flatted in the sb again. flop AT3 and he c/c my 1/2 pot cbet. turn was a 8 and he instant c/c my shove (he didn't have much left and I knew he wouldn't fold his top pair). My AK held up against his A6ss. ship it fish!
After that big lucky suckout and knocked out that fish. My chip stack was at 120k and the whole table was just sitting there trying to wait for a hand to play with me when at the same time kept folding to my raise and cbet and brought my chip stack to 158k at the end of day1. ;)

Justice! finally took down a donkament.
Was really upset about the fact that I dropped 13.5 BIs at 1/2 yesterday, ran extremely bad and wa a little on tilt. Woke up today and decided to just play some donkaments for fun. Little did I know, I ran soooo much better in donkaments.
This is literally the 2nd FT I make in MTT this yr.

APPT curse continues
So I started the day2 with 31900 in chips. The very first hand, an old guy from utg1 shoved for 10k at 500/1k and folded to me in the bb w/ 66. I felt like it was a race situation most of the time but 10bb stack was just too short for me to fold my 66 so I made the call and was happy to see his 22 and my hand held up.
Then I was pretty card dead and the table went kinda a little crazy, a lot of raise and 3bet and I just couldn't find a spot to steal or resteal. Finally a big hand happened- hj opens to like 3k ish at 600/1200 and Emad flats otb, i looked down 44 and had about 32k left so I decided to just squeeze shove and hopefully to pick up dead money. PFR tanked and tanked and finally reshove all in for 40k. Emad moaned and folded 77 face up (obv the result I wanted to see). PFR turned over ATo and flop came 4h7hKh (wow, it woulda been a sick flop for me and Emad had he not folded 77) and pfr doesn't have a heart so I doubled up to a pretty healthy 68kish stack.
Then this hand happened that cost me quite a good part of my stack. Folds to me in hj and I looked down 57h, given how ppl behind me are pretty tight and passive, I decided to steal. Sb, a bold guy who's been playing pretty straightforwardly, flats in sb and we went to the flop. flop came 663 with 2 spades. He instant check/called my 60% pot cbet. Turn was a 9h, he checked again, to this point, i figured his hand is mostly mid pair that probably wouldn't fold to my 2barrel so I checked back. River was a 9s and he checked again, I figured he has hands like 33,44,55, 77,88 majority of the time and couldn't really call the river psb given flush completes on the river and the bet was 1/2 of his stack. so I tanked a little bit before betting 15k into 15k pot and he went back to check his hand and instant called w/ AKo high hoping to chop and obv he won the hand. yuck.
Later on in the 12th level, I was pretty short stack (10bb) and started to open shove tons of my hands. First hand 1.5k/3k, the bold guy limps mp1 and folded to me in sb w/ KQhh so I jammed and he folded pretty quickly. The very next hand folded to me otb w/ 38hh and I shoved again knowing the sb/bb are tight enough that they would even fold AT there and I picked up the blinds again. Few hands later I was in bb, co, a guy who I played a lot with limped co, sb completes, knowing that the co never has a strong hand there, I shoved again w/ J3dd and both ppl folded. 2 hands later, the bald guy limped utg (very weak, his limping range is 100% small-mid pairs and suited connectors), chip leader limp in mp2 and folded to me otb and I looked down ATo and decided to shove my last 14bb stack. As I expected, utg folded pretty quickly but the chip leader instant called w/ QQ. Flop came 678 and I bricked the turn and river. gg me again in the appt.

10/14 APPT Aukland Day 1A recap.
good news is that I made it to day 2! bad news is that I only have 31.9k stack to work with on day2 (started w/ 20k stack).
My chip stack has been a little bit of roller coaster the whole day. Was up to 29k at the first break, then down to 17k the 2nd break, then worked my way up to 44k at one point and then played one hand bad and cost me a lot of chips.
So basically, my first table was really good, players were super uber tight and passive except for the guy on my left who seemed to picked up the table dynamic and just raised literally every other hand. But he's not getting away easily from me. I started to 3bet him like crazy, every time he opens, I'd just 3bet and he'd fold. The 3rd time he opened at CO and I 3bet otb w/ KK hoping he'd get fed up w/ me and did some spazzy moves. To my surprised, he folded like a baby again :(.
Then at 150/300, guy on my right was very short and had 5500 when the hand began. he opened to 800 at hj and i found 55 in co. Obv a very standard 3bet/call against him. So I did and he tanked and reluctantly shoved his AQo in and we're on to the race. Obv I never win a single race in tournament when he binked the Q on the turn.
Later on I picked up many pots and worked my way up back to 35k before I got moved to the new table. New table wasn't too bad except for one of the Team Australia pros was running like sick good. Had AA 5 times and got action 4 times. Anyway, I misplayed a hand where I should've cbet the flop and chose to check and the guy caught his 6 outer on the turn and I lost the pot and now I ended the day with 31.9k. Sigh.
After the end of day1, me, Celina, DDBeast and bunch of other 2p2ers went to dinner and we had a great time. Italian restaurant here is really good. I also won the credit card rollette so the night was free.
will post some pictures from the dinner later on when I upload all of the pics.
Going to get a good night sleep now and I'm gonna go bungy jumping with DDBeast tmr.

New Zealand Day 2 - rant post
New Zealand day 2:
had a good night sleep and woke up early. Went on to have breakfast with Lee Nelson and Celina Lin. Breakfast was really tasty and to be honest, I haven't had such a fullfilling and satisfying breakfast in a long while. The conversation was really entertaining and enjoyable. We talked about many things: life, poker and general stuff. After breakfast, came back and changed and decided to check out the live cash game. Found an open seat at the 5/5 (100min, 500max).
Bought in for 5 and big hand that cost me my stack happened the 2nd hand in.
utg, utg1 limped, lag guy opened for 35, guy next to him called. i flat w/ 33 on the button, one limper called. flop (155ish) KhTx3h, limper donked bet 60, pfr folded, guy next to him called. I made a 200 dollar raise, left myself 265 behind. guy who donked instant called and next guy folded. Turn 8h and he shoved, i wasn't folding anything so i instant called, river 6h. obv the guy had QJhh. no big deal, standard.
rebought for 500 and was in bb. mp1 (200) opened to 35 and everyone folded to me and looked down QQ. what am I supposed to do w/ QQ in bb w/ a guy who started with 40bb stack?

Then I reloaded 200, also my last cash in my wallet at the moment. Another big hand soon appeared. utg limp, utg1 (the lag) opened to 35, i flat w/ AKo in mp2. small blind flat
and we went to the flop. flop AQc8c, checked to me and i bet 80 into 110, sb c/shove to 200 and i instant called. turn K river J. sb turned over ATo and was jumping like a monkey.
To this point, I couldn't really take it anymore, i mean WTF, give me a FUCKING break okay?! Stop rewarding those idiots who make funny moves and gets there everytime!
I decided to just stay short stack and leave if i lose my last 300 nzd. Then this hand happened: that sb donk now in mp1 opened to 25, guy nexted to him flat, a girl flat otb, sb reraised to 110.
I looked down AK and it was just the easiest shove in my life with so much dead money in the pot already. So I shoved, 2nd caller all in for his last 140 and sb tanked for a bit and called off the 310 dollar 4bet shove.
flop Kd9d5d (i didn't have a diamond and was ready to see the 4th diamond coming) turn was a 9 and river was a 6d (obv, given how i run). Then, mp turned over ATo w/ no diamond and sb turned over A9o w/ no diamond!
Another bad play/bad call off got rewarded!
What can I say? I managed to drop 1200 nzd within 30 min of my first live cash game in NZ. Wondering why no matter what I do in poker, it just keeps failing. What do you want from me, poker god?

Arrived in Aukland, NZ
Just arrived in Aukland, NZ yesterday. Such a torturing trip to this place. Couldn't sleep the day before I took off (had too much fun hanging out with Deb, Sharn and Moses). Then the econ seat on Korean Airlines is just too narrow for my size. However, the flight attendent that was serving me was incredibly pretty. I hope she didn't get her look from plastic surgeory.
New Zealand is a really beautiful country with a tons of farmland from airplane's view. I can't wait to explore the country and do some sight seeing soon as I'm done with the tournament.

off to New Zealand next Monday or Tuesday for APPT Aukland
So, I decided to make a trip down to Aukland, New Zealand next week for the 2nd stop of Asian Pacific Poker Tour.
I'm really excited about the trip as I've never been to New Zealand in my life and I'd like to add one more stop to my passport. So far I have been to Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, China, HongKong, Macau, Taiwan (obv, I'm from here duh!), Saipan, Guam, South Africa, and the US. What's on my to-visit list? well, after New Zealand, it'll be Philipines in Nov and Australia in Dec. After that, I really want to go to Europe then I'm basically done visiting most places in the world. I love traveling cuz it really opens up my eyes and mind and I love flying!
okay, back to poker.
Last month I came really close to making the money in APPT Macau but a very sticky situation occurred during the bubble time and I chose the riskier way and lost to the fate. I played so well and am very confident about this coming one also. A little brag here, I knocked out the 2005 world champ Joe Hachem on day 2!!!

finally got my own personalized blog
After 3 years of poker playing and 1.5 yrs of turning pro. I finally decided to get my own blog and start updating things happening in my life, poker session, coaching, etc.
It's not just about promoting myself, but more like being more responsible of my personal life, career and outlook on my life.
